The start of the journey

Living through an earthquake and realising you cannot effectively communicate with your family really plays with your mind.
Is the communication getting through?
Are they unable to answer / reply because they are hurt?
Is the method of communication being used appropriate?

In September 2010, trying to contact family had variable success. Later that day, I was able to hear from all my family in other parts of Christchurch. Luckily the immediate family was at home with me.

Thoughts then turned to the school family.
Using the school's server became impossible as there was no power supply after the UPS had kicked in.  Offsite distribution lists were not kept.

Only after a few days and physically restoring the server, contact was able to be made with the school family. Manual email lists were hastily put together.

Lessons were learned.

Then came February 22 2011.

Here is the journey of my quest to be an effective and efficient communicator with the whole school family by exploring the use of online tools not requiring a physical server in a fixed location.

The Big Question

Which online Communication Tools will make my communication more efficient and effective?
